mwbamwbqPeltephilus mwbgAmeghino, 1887 è un mwbwgenere estinto di mwcaarmadilli appartenente alla mwcqfamiglia mwcgPeltephilidae.

Nel corso dell'mwdaOligocene era presente nei territori dell'odierna Argentina, e si estinse nel corso del mwdqMiocene. Era caratterizzato dalla presenza di un paio di corna nella parte superiore del cranio.cite-ref-encyclopedia-d-p-1999-1-0[1]

La specie mwewP. ferox aveva un cranio di circa 11,7 cm,cite-ref-2[2] e una massa corporea stimata in circa 11 kg.cite-ref-3[3]

È stato tradizionalmente considerato un genere mwhqcarnivoro in base ai grandi denti triangolari, ma nel 1997 Vizcaino e Farina hanno proposto che mwhgPeltephilus fosse mwhwerbivoro.cite-ref-4[4]

Tassonomia

Il genere mwjwPeltephilus fu originariamente assegnato alla famiglia dei mwkaChlamyphoridae, ma nel 2007 Darin A. Croft, John J. Flynn e Andre Wyss lo posizionarono nella nuova famiglia dei mwkqPeltephilidae.cite-ref-croft-2007-5-0[5]
